May 28th Risky Business Ken from Manchester - superb musical talent, Ruth from Derbyshire - an exceptional vocalist, Dave, Zimbabwean - is a powerful songwriter. This accomplished trio (two guitars and three voices) were last seen at the Cross Keys on New Years Day, expect standing room only!

June 4th Maggie Boyle & Chris Parkinson Maggie has a hauntingly beautiful voice, exquisite flute playng. "Her 'Gweebarra', is a cracking album!" Mike Harding. Chris worked with Ralph McTell & Billy Connolly on the soundtrack for Billy`s TV series "World Tour Of England, Ireland and Wales". They both have an impressive list of artists they have performed with over the years, & impressive catalogues of live & recorded work. With Jon Brindley they are "Withy Creek".

June 18th Hoover The Dog This immensely talented trio from the Mid-Wales borders, the band's repertoire is chiefly made up of original tunes by violinist John Hymas. Hoover The Dog create an astonishingly big sound with an overall Celtic flavour.

July 9th Nick Bold In the 1980s Nick Bold had an advance of $1.2 Million when Atlantic Records agreed to a recording contract for his band Virginia Wolf. Queen drummer Roger Taylor produced the first album. Nick has had his work produced by Mike Rutherford (Genesis/Mike & the Mechanics).
July 16th The Hometowners The Hometowners Mick Collins Kevin Clarke and Pete McMillan - Hosts of the very popular Sunday Singers Night here at the Cross Keys now perform midweek for your delight and delectation. Expect a night of good humour, good song and good musicianship.
July 23rd Roughtown Five piece folk/rock band, comprising Tameside's most talented musicians, named after one of the oldest parts of Mossley. May be acoustic tonight!

Paul Roberts Both of these local singers have been involved in the folk tradition for 30 years. Although quite different in style each will be giving fine interpretations.
Aug 20th Tom Paley Born and raised in New York City, Tom Paley's instruments are Banjo, guitar & fiddle. American Old-Time music & Swedish fiddle-music! In Sweden, he's been awarded the Zorn-medal for his Swedish fiddling. Tom has performed on radio, TV, at festivals & clubs, in many countries. For a time, he performed with Woody Guthrie, Mike Seeger & John Cohen. In 1966 he moved to England, where he has lived ever since.
Aug 27th Mundy Turner Cath Mundy, lyrical violin & piano, & Jay Turner, versatile guitarist, are an internationally-touring acoustic duo based in Brisbane, Australia.
Both performers are impressive vocalists. Their live performances are strong with original material, harmonies, and humorous stories.

Sept 10th Joe Stead Joe started singing folk songs over 40 years ago in S.E. London, visiting many, now infamous, folk clubs around Soho at the time. He describes a clipper ship voyage from Liverpool to Valparaiso in the 1860’s singing appropriate shanties for every stage of four-month sea voyage.
Sept 17th Jeff Davies Singer, musician, folklorist & entertainer from the U.S.A., performs traditional music of North America. Multi-instrumentalist with a special feel for old time banjo & fiddle styles, also plays guitar, concertina & mandolin as well as other more unusual instruments such as jaw harp & nose flute. Floor spots by Pete Coe, Sue Coe, Brian Peters, Bonz, and Dave Pope.
Sept 24th Keiran Halpin Born Drogheda, Co. Louth, one of the very finest Irish contemporary songwriters, he is one of the best. The songs are only part of the story, Kieran has a voice that sells the songs & has the effect of accentuating all the emotions.
Sept 31st Kate Howden, Paul Jones & Tony Taffinder Stunning self-penned songs, cool vocals, top musicianship & a cast iron delivery. Howden-Jones (rippling busy guitar figures, empathic vocal harmonies), Taffinder, primarily on guitar but also bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, bass....

Oct 8th Breige Murphy Born & raised in the musically fertile area of Forkhill, South Armagh. Five years ago she began to write her own songs, made a demo with Colum Sands who played it on his BBC radio programme, this led to her performing at many prestigious events. Christy Moore is one of her fans!
Oct 15th Bernard Carney Bernard Carney is a genius, a world class act. Lynne Herauld Lynne & Keith joined forces in April 1999 to pursue folk songs & ballads of ‘Old England’. Lynne's mellow voice blends with Keith's in old & new songs, accompanied by Keith's fine concertina. Keith has worked in the national and international folk scene for some 35 years & still performs with Kent based ceilidh band 'The East Kent Hoppers' & maritime duo 'The Anchor Men'.

Nov 26th Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies From the Geordie Northeast of England Jez has performed his music for audiences all over the world. The Bad Pennies are virtuosos on a dozen instruments, including guitars, mandolins, dulcimers, fiddles, & percussion. Lowe's Back in Durham Jail has been covered by no less than 14 acts. "The best songwriter to come out of England in a long time." (Richard Thompson).

Dec 10th Kevin Tarpey & Steve Wooley Both Kevin and Steve are excellent musicians with a wide choice of material. From the Manchester area they have teamed up for the last 3 years.. and can usually be found at the Hare 'n' Hounds, Shudehill in Manchester on a Friday night where they run the popular Full Circle folk club.
Dec 17th Stanley Accringtons Christmas Party! Tomorrow's news in the style of yesterday's songs in an original traditional way. Sometimes daft, usually different. The Bard of Shaw gave his first live performance at Stalybridge's Buffet Bar in 1979. Stanley Accrington (that's not his real name) local man, former Rochdale Station Master, is revealed as a talented wordsmith, scatalogical, good-naturedly xenophobic and occasionally brilliant.

Nov	26th	Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies	From the Geordie Northeast of England Jez has performed his music for audiences all over the world. The Bad Pennies are virtuosos on a dozen instruments, including guitars, mandolins, dulcimers, fiddles, & percussion. Lowe's Back in Durham Jail has been covered by no less than 14 acts. "The best songwriter to come out of England in a long time." (Richard Thompson).

Dec	3rd	Brian Peters	With a high level of skill on English squeezebox, melodeon (button accordion) & anglo concertina, a great voice, an energetic stage presence & a fine guitarist, folk music's finest ambassador.
Dec	10th	Kevin Tarpey & Steve Wooley	Both Kevin and Steve are excellent musicians with a wide choice of material. From the Manchester area they have teamed up for the last 3 years.. and can usually be found at the Hare 'n' Hounds, Shudehill in Manchester on a Friday night where they run the popular Full Circle folk club.
Dec	17th	Stanley Accringtons Christmas Party!	Tomorrow's news in the style of yesterday's songs in an original traditional way. Sometimes daft, usually different. The Bard of Shaw gave his first live performance at Stalybridge's Buffet Bar in 1979. Stanley Accrington (that's not his real name) local man, former Rochdale Station Master, is revealed as a talented wordsmith, scatalogical, good-naturedly xenophobic and occasionally brilliant.
